District Receives Best Rating in Comptroller's Review
Wynantskill UFSD received the best rating in State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli's annual review of school districts' financial stability, released in January.
Last year, the district barely made the cut for the lowest of four levels of stress, "susceptible to fiscal stress." But that was a result of a one-time transfer of funds to a Capital Reserve to help pay for the Capital Project. The transfer made it appear the district had used significant fund balance to pay general operating expenses.
In 2015, the first year Comptroller DiNapoli issued his report on school districts' financial stability, the district earned the best rating.
"I am very proud of our current score, which confirms that last year's designation was an outlier," said Superintendent Dr. Thomas Reardon. "Clearly our diligence, fiscal responsibility and most importantly the hard work of [District Treasurer] Mary Ellen Angrisano and [Accounts Payable/Receiver of Taxes] Denise Fitzgerald are why we can be so proud of this score."
