Board of Education Appoints Dr. Thomas Reardon Next Superintendent
The Board of Education is proud to announce it has appointed Dr. Thomas Reardon, an educator with 13 years of administrative and classroom experience, as the next superintendent of Wynantskill Union Free School District at the Board’s June 18 meeting.
“I want to offer my sincerest gratitude to the community for offering me this opportunity,” said Dr. Reardon. “From the moment I walked in the door it felt like the right fit because everyone is so positive and has such a sense of pride in the school. I feel honored to be a part of that and look forward to helping the district continue what they do and hopefully adding to it.”
Dr. Reardon is expected to start on July 6. He will succeed Superintendent Lee Bordick who will retire at the end of the school year.
For the past six years, Dr. Reardon has served as Principal of Voorheesville Elementary School where he also serves as the District Registrar. He worked as the Elementary Dean/Assistant Principal for Bethlehem Central School District for the two previous years. Dr. Reardon also taught English Language Arts at Bethlehem Middle School for five years.
Because his family is from Rensselaer County and he grew up in North Greenbush, Dr. Reardon said he is very familiar with Gardner-Dickinson’s excellent reputation and strong community support. He noted he enjoyed the interview process which allowed him to meet so many faculty, staff and community members and looks forward to continuing that with more opportunities over the summer and into the school year. The district will announce dates for those events once they are finalized.
“One of the things I look forward to most is setting up opportunities where everyone can meet me and I can meet them,” said Dr. Reardon. “I can’t understate how excited I am to listen and add to what I already know about a really great school.”
Board of Education President Ann Marsh explained Dr. Reardon’s enthusiasm, commitment to improving education and experience at both the elementary and middle school levels were important to the Board’s decision. She added that Dr. Reardon also impressed faculty, staff and community members during his visit to the school on May 28.
“Dr. Reardon will bring energy and proven leadership to our district to help us continue to improve academically and increase opportunities for our students,” said Ms. Marsh. “He works phenomenally with his staff in Voorheesville and is very involved in the entire community. He has great relationships with students, parents, community residents and the business community.”
Dr. Reardon has a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Siena College, a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instructional Technology from the University at Albany, and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Sage Graduate School.
Wynantskill UFSD received 34 applications for the Superintendent of Schools position. The Board selected six candidates for interviews and three semifinalists who best met characteristics determined by the community, teachers, staff, students and Board of Education.
